Cloudbyz alternatives: suite or single-purpose EDC?

Cloudbyz offers an eClinical suite built on Salesforce, with CTMS, eTMF, EDC and other modules on one data model. Whether you need an alternative depends on whether you want the suite or just the EDC. Here is a hedged, factual guide and a decision rule.

What to know first

  • What the vendor says: Cloudbyz describes a unified eClinical platform natively built on Salesforce, covering CTMS, eTMF, EDC, RTSM and safety and pharmacovigilance on a common data model. Its EDC is described as having a no-code study builder and a rules engine, and the vendor states 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. These come from the vendor's own materials and third-party listings; we did not find independent verification.
  • What we do not claim: anything about Cloudbyz pricing, implementation time, customers or performance.
  • The real question is scope. If you need one integrated suite on Salesforce, a single-purpose EDC is not a replacement for it. If you need EDC (with eConsent, ePRO and randomisation), a suite may be more than you need.
  • Capture is an all-in-one platform focused on the study itself: EDC, eCRF builder, ePRO, eConsent, randomisation, with eTMF and CTMS on Full Platform. It is not built on Salesforce.

The vendor

What "Salesforce-native" means for a buyer

A Salesforce-native product runs inside the Salesforce platform and uses its data model, security model and tooling. For a buyer the potential attractions are a common data model across modules, integration with the CRM and other apps already on Salesforce, and configurability by people who know the platform. The potential costs are dependence on Salesforce licences and releases, a configuration skill set that is separate from clinical data management, and the need to confirm how a validated clinical system is managed inside a platform that updates on the vendor's schedule.

These are questions, not findings. Ask Cloudbyz how validation is handled across Salesforce releases, who owns the environment, how audit trail is exposed to inspectors, and what is licensed separately. The same questions apply to any vendor: see the EDC vendor audit checklist and the 21 CFR Part 11 checklist.

Questions for any suite

What to ask Cloudbyz, and every other suite vendor

Scope in the quote

Which modules, how many studies, how many users, and what is licensed separately (including underlying Salesforce licences).

Who configures the system

Vendor services, a partner or your team, and what each costs, including changes after go-live.

Validation across releases

How platform updates are controlled, tested and documented for GCP use.

EDC depth

Edit checks, query workflow, audit trail export, e-signature and form lifecycle, shown on your protocol.

Data export and exit

Format, completeness including audit trail, and any exit fee.

Hosting

Regions and data residency for your participants.

Time to first study

From contract signing to first participant in, with the assumptions.

Fair view

Who should stay with a suite, and who should look elsewhere

Stay if you are an operations-heavy sponsor that wants CTMS, eTMF, safety and EDC on one data model, you already have Salesforce skills, and your studies are complex enough to use that breadth. A suite built on one platform can remove integration work that separate systems would create, and replacing it with several tools would add that work back. See EDC vs CTMS for how the categories differ.

Look elsewhere if you mainly need to capture data for a study quickly, you do not have Salesforce skills in house, or you want published pricing to compare. In that case, run the same protocol in a self-serve EDC and compare the build time, the edit checks and the price. The self-serve vs full-service guide covers the labour trade-off, and the EDC quote request template gives you a block to send every vendor so the replies are comparable.

Where Capture fits

EDC, eConsent, ePRO and randomisation in one study workspace

Capture is built around the study team. You build forms with the AI study builder or templates, set edit checks that raise auto-queries, collect consent and participant data in the same system, and export for analysis. It is suitable for Phase 1 to 3.

  • Field-level audit trail on every record, exportable and not editable from the app.
  • Role-based access with separate site coordinator and researcher views.
  • CSV or Excel export with a data dictionary, and SDTM as SAS XPT with Define-XML.
  • Core from $1,000 per month including one live study, plus $50 per participant per month; Full Platform adds eTMF, CTMS, drug supply and stratified, blinded randomisation.

What is Cloudbyz?

A US eClinical vendor whose products are described as built natively on Salesforce, with modules for CTMS, eTMF, EDC, RTSM and safety and pharmacovigilance. These descriptions come from the vendor and third-party listings.

What does Salesforce-native mean?

The software runs inside the Salesforce platform and uses its data model and tools. Ask how validation, releases and licences are handled for a regulated clinical system.

What are alternatives to Cloudbyz?

For a full suite, large vendors such as Veeva, Medidata or Oracle; for EDC-focused needs, platforms such as Viedoc, Castor or Capture. The right one depends on module scope and team skills.

Does Capture replace Cloudbyz CTMS and safety?

Capture includes CTMS and eTMF on Full Platform. It does not claim a safety and pharmacovigilance database. Compare scope module by module.

Is Capture built on Salesforce?

No. Capture is a standalone clinical trial platform with its own data model, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt) and the USA (N. Virginia).

Can I try Capture before deciding?

Yes. The free sandbox has every feature with no credit card and no time limit.

Is Capture suitable for Phase 3?

Yes. Capture is suitable for Phase 1 to 3.
