On Capture, eConsent is not a line item. It is included in Core at $1,000 a month plus $50 per participant per month, alongside EDC and ePRO. This page shows how to work out what eConsent really costs per study, and what to ask when it is sold as an add-on.

The short answer
The question behind the query
Search for eConsent pricing and you find very little, because eConsent is usually sold as a module of a larger system and quoted deal by deal. Some vendors charge per participant consented, some per site, some a flat licence per study, and many a build fee for each consent form. The same 80-participant study can therefore produce wildly different consent lines depending on how the quote is structured.
Capture takes the opposite approach and does not charge for the module. The pricing page puts eConsent inside Core with EDC, ePRO, the AI Study Builder and simple randomisation. That is why a page about the cost of eConsent is mostly a page about what else is on your budget when consent is free: signatures, templates, time and the reconciliation you avoid. The feature itself is covered in eConsent software for clinical trials and on the eConsent product page.
This is also a different question from total EDC cost. For that, see EDC per-patient pricing explained and the EDC software pricing guide.
Worked example
Participants enrol over 8 months and are followed for 4. List-rate arithmetic from the published numbers: not a quote, and lower rates above 100 participants do not apply here.
| Line | Quantity | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core monthly fee (1 live study) | 12 months live | $1,000 | $12,000 |
| Per-participant fee | 320 participant-months | $50 | $16,000 |
| Study setup by the team | 1 | $0 | $0 |
| eConsent module | Included | $0 | $0 |
| ePRO module | Included | $0 | $0 |
| Total at list rate | $28,000 | ||
| Per participant | 80 | $350 |
The consent form, its templates and e-signature flow are part of that $28,000. If a vendor quotes a separate consent line, add it to this table to compare like with like.

Where consent cost really sits
A software licence is the easy line. The costs that move with eConsent sit elsewhere. Paper consent has printing, couriering of signed originals, scanning, version control of pre-printed packs and the time a coordinator spends hunting a missing signature page before a monitoring visit. Re-keying consent dates into the EDC adds an error source: a consent date later than the first procedure date is a classic finding. Where consent and EDC are in one platform, the signature record and the casebook sit under one audit trail, so there is nothing to reconcile.
The signing flow itself is specified. The participant signs on screen and verifies by email one-time password after acknowledging the legal-binding statement. Authorised site staff countersign with password re-authentication, and the document is Fully Executed only after countersignature. Optional witness and legally authorised representative signatures are supported. Each signature is linked by hash to the exact document content at signing, and the signed consent exports as a PDF with signature data, timestamps and the audit trail. For paper-free setups see eConsent without paper forms.
Starting points are free: the eConsent templates cover basic clinical trial, biobank, genomic, multi-site, long-term follow-up, observational, pediatric assent and others, so the build cost is editing, not authoring from nothing. Whatever you use, your ethics committee approves the wording; the software does not replace that.
Participant reads the consent form
Acknowledges the legal-binding statement
Signs on screen, confirms by email OTP
Investigator countersigns with re-authentication
Fully Executed, PDF with audit trail
If eConsent is sold separately
Convert the quote to total cost for your participant and site numbers.
Ask the price per consent document and per amendment or new version.
Per-seat charges for site staff add up across sites.
If not, price the reconciliation and the duplicate audit trail.
Signed PDFs with audit data should be exportable without a fee.
A module that needs its own contract delays the start of consenting.
Which plan
If consent is the only extra module you need, Core is enough. Full Platform makes sense when the same study also needs eTMF, CTMS, stratified and blinded randomisation, drug supply, unblinded roles for a CRO or statistician and a branded participant portal. If you only need to compare costs for a small biotech, eConsent software for small biotech and EDC with eConsent describe the combined set-up, and low-cost clinical trial software covers the wider budget.
eConsent is included in Core, so there is no separate module charge. Core is $1,000 per month plus $50 per participant per month, and study setup by the team is $0.
Yes. Full Platform at $5,000 per month per live study plus $30 per participant per month includes everything in Core, plus eTMF, CTMS and more.
Many sell it as a separate module with its own licence and build. The pricing page shows eConsent as a paid add-on at a typical EDC vendor, which is a general description, not a quote from any named vendor.
It is made of printing, courier, scanning, version control and coordinator time, plus errors from re-keying consent dates. Those are your own costs, so put your numbers into the worksheet.
Your ethics committee approves the consent wording and process, whether it is paper or electronic. The software does not change that.
The participant signs on screen and confirms through an email one-time password. Authorised staff countersign with password re-authentication, and the signed document exports as a PDF with the audit trail.
