EDC for peptide therapy research with dose logs and safety built in

Peptide studies, from longevity clinics to formal early-phase trials, hinge on what was given, from which lot, when, and what happened next. Capture holds dose and injection records beside labs, adverse events and participant diaries, with an audit trail on every field.

  • Dose and lot records per administration
  • Injection-site and AE capture
  • Optional Oura sleep and recovery data

What a peptide study needs from its data system

  • Exposure is the primary record: product, lot, dose, route, site, date and who administered it, per administration.
  • Product status matters: whether the peptide is an approved drug, an investigational product, a compounded preparation or a cosmetic or supplement ingredient changes the approvals needed. Check with the regulator.
  • Home and clinic dosing: many protocols mix clinic administrations with self-injection logged by the participant.
  • Multi-domain outcomes: body composition, labs, pain or function scores, sleep and recovery, often at several time points.
  • Safety discipline: injection-site reactions and adverse events need structured capture whatever the product category.

The research context

Why peptides need unusually careful exposure records

Peptides are short chains of amino acids and range from long-established medicines to research compounds that have little human data. Studies run in very different settings: pharmaceutical development, academic trials, and a growing number of longevity and wellness clinics that want to document outcomes of the protocols they offer. These settings have one thing in common. The credibility of the dataset depends on knowing exactly what each participant received.

The regulatory position is changeable. In the United States, reports in 2026 described FDA moving to take a group of peptide bulk substances off its compounding "Category 2" list and seeking advisory committee input, while secondary sources conflict on where each substance now sits. Other jurisdictions have their own rules. This page does not tell you whether any product may be used; it tells you that you must establish the product's status with the regulator and your ethics committee before you enrol anyone. For the bigger picture see FDA expedited IND pilot program guide and EDC for early stage clinical trials.

The data model follows from this. Build an exposure form with product, lot or batch, preparation notes if relevant, dose, route, site and administrator, one row per administration. Where the protocol has a dose-reconstitution step, record it as its own documented field rather than a note. Lot numbers matter because an adverse event cluster that traces to one lot is a different finding from a spread across lots. For kit and inventory logic see IMP inventory and drug accountability software.

The visit schedule

Clinic visits, home administrations and labs on one calendar

Map the whole protocol into a schedule of assessments: baseline labs and body composition, scheduled administrations, safety labs and follow-up. Participants log home administrations on their phone, and staff see adherence by participant.

  • Visit windows and tasks scheduled automatically from the enrolment date.
  • Home administration diary opened from a phone link with reminders.
  • Templates for vital signs, labs, adverse events and concomitant medications.
  • Randomization and blinded roles when the design includes placebo.

Wearables and outcomes

Sleep, recovery and what Capture does and does not connect

Longevity-style peptide protocols often track sleep and recovery. The study team can enable the native Oura connection per study and mark it required; each participant connects their own account from a study page, and data syncs automatically with a visible last-sync time and a disconnect option. No other wearable is claimed. Use it as context for analysis, not as proof of mechanism. See Oura Ring clinical trial integration, EDC for longevity clinical trials and the wearable data sharing consent template.

Outcome design deserves more care than the product. Pick a small number of pre-specified endpoints, record their timing and avoid collecting dozens of loosely related measures that invite false positives. If you are a clinic documenting outcomes rather than running a formal trial, longevity clinics outcomes tracking software describes that mode, and you should still ask whether your activity counts as research and needs ethics review.

Capture provides 21 CFR Part 11-aligned controls (field-level audit trail, e-signatures, role-based access). That does not make a study compliant on its own; validated use is shared with the sponsor. This is not medical or legal advice.

FAQ

Questions teams ask before they switch

Something not covered here? Ask us directly.

Can we record lot numbers and doses per administration?

Yes. Build an administration form with typed fields for lot, dose, route, site and administrator, one row per dose, with an audit trail on every field.

Is the peptide I want to study allowed?

Capture cannot tell you. Product status in compounding and as an investigational product is changing in several jurisdictions. Check with the regulator and your ethics committee.

Can participants log home injections?

Yes. A diary opens from a phone link with reminders; no app install is needed.

Can we add Oura data?

The study team can enable the native Oura connection per study and participants connect their own account. No other device is claimed.

Does Capture manage product supply?

No. It does not prepare, dispense or verify products. Kit and accountability logging is described on the IMP inventory page.
