ObvioHealth describes itself as a virtual research organization that runs decentralized and virtual trials with its own app and platform. This page separates the research-organization services from the software, and shows how to scope a software-only alternative for studies you run yourself.

What to know first
The vendor
Trade coverage from 2021 to 2024 presents ObvioHealth as an organisation built around virtual trials, with a platform and app for participants, partnerships with device makers for remote measurements, and a footprint across Asia-Pacific that included a collaboration with a large enterprise software vendor in 2022. The April 2024 release of ObvioGo 2.0 describes an upgraded platform and app that allows hybrid and virtual designs within one study.
The company's statements about faster recruitment and better adherence are marketing claims, and this page does not repeat or evaluate them. If you shortlist a VRO, ask for study-level evidence from comparable trials, check how data reaches your own statisticians, and confirm what you keep access to at the end. For the wider category see virtual clinical trial platforms and the decentralized clinical trial guide.
Asia-Pacific studies add regional questions about data protection and regulator expectations. Rules differ by country, so check with local counsel and the relevant regulator rather than relying on a vendor summary. Capture hosts in the EU (Frankfurt) and USA (N. Virginia) only.
Scoping
Use this to decide which rows you need to buy as services and which you can run yourself with software.
| Activity in a virtual study | Run by a VRO or CRO | Run by your team with Capture |
|---|---|---|
| Study design and protocol writing | Offered as a service by some providers | Your team; the AI study builder drafts forms from a finished protocol |
| Participant recruitment | Often provided | Not provided; you share a QR-code link per study or per site |
| Remote consent | Through the provider's platform | eConsent with email-OTP signature and investigator countersignature |
| Daily or weekly participant forms | Provider app | ePRO on the participant's phone, no app install |
| Wearable data | Provider device partnerships | Oura through the participant's own sign-in; other devices need confirmation |
| Data cleaning and queries | Provider data management | Your data manager using edit checks and auto-queries |
| Monitoring | Provider or CRO | Your monitors, with per-field SDV and by-site filtering |
| Statistics | Provider or CRO | Your statistician, from CSV/Excel or SDTM (SAS XPT with Define-XML) |
Create a consent flow, a weekly diary and a visit schedule in the free sandbox, then try it on your own phone. No credit card, no time limit.
The participant journey
A participant opens a QR-code link, reads the consent document on their phone, signs on screen and confirms by email one-time code. Site staff countersign, and only then is the consent fully executed. The participant then receives their diary tasks, completes them on the same device and, if the study enables it and they agree, connects a supported wearable so data syncs automatically. Meanwhile site staff complete eCRFs, queries are raised by edit checks, and the whole trail sits under one audit log.
This covers the data and consent side of a remote design. It does not provide video visits, home nurse visits or courier logistics, which you would arrange through sites or a services vendor. Read EDC for remote clinical trials, econsent for decentralized trials and remote patient monitoring for how the pieces fit.

Questions for any VRO
Which services are offered now, and in which countries.
Does the study run on the vendor's own platform or yours, and what do you keep at the end.
Audit trail, dictionary, queries and signatures in an export you can test.
Study-level outcomes from comparable trials, not marketing averages.
Services and software as separate lines so you can unbundle later.
Who makes submissions, and the documents you get for inspections.
Fair view
Stay with a research organization if you lack the clinical team, the regulatory experience or the recruitment channels, and the service is what you need. It is a legitimate model, particularly for sponsors running a first virtual study in a new region.
Look at software when you have a protocol, investigators and a statistician and want control of cost and timing. The self-run route needs a data management plan; see self-serve vs full-service EDC. For similar vendor reviews in the decentralized category see Medable alternatives, and for the EDC side Viedoc alternatives. Capture's list prices are on the pricing page, with Core at $1,000 per month including one live study and $50 per participant per month.
It describes itself as a virtual research organization that runs decentralized and virtual clinical trials with its own platform and app. Confirm its current services with the company.
It is described as a services organization with a platform, not mainly an EDC vendor. If you need only data capture, an EDC is the closer comparison.
For services, other decentralized-trial providers and CROs; for software, EDC, eConsent and ePRO platforms such as Capture, Medable or Viedoc, depending on needs.
No. Capture is software for teams that run their own studies. It does not recruit participants or supply clinical staff.
Yes. eConsent and ePRO are in Core, with QR-code enrolment and no app install.
Capture is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt) and USA (N. Virginia). It makes no claim of local hosting, offices or language support in Asia-Pacific; check with local counsel and your regulator.
Yes. Capture is suitable for Phase 1 to 3.
