Both are enterprise e-clinical suites, and the real decision is rarely the EDC screen: it is which vendor ecosystem you commit to. This page compares the buying questions, not feature lists, and adds a lean third option for studies that do not need a suite.

The short version
Two suites
Third-party summaries position Veeva as a cloud-native suite where data capture sits next to clinical operations and content tools, with an emphasis on build speed and a single vendor platform. They position Oracle Clinical One as an enterprise data collection product that grew out of Oracle Clinical and InForm, in the same family as Oracle's trial management and safety systems. These are secondary descriptions; both vendors publish their own module lists and you should read those.
For a buyer, the practical consequence is the same in both cases: you are not only choosing a data capture screen, you are choosing how closely your clinical operations, safety and document systems are tied to one vendor. If you already run that vendor's CTMS or safety tool, the suite argument is strong. If you do not, the EDC has to justify itself alone.
Existing Capture pages cover each vendor against Capture (Capture vs Veeva, Capture vs Oracle Clinical One) and each against Medidata (Rave vs Veeva Vault EDC, Oracle Clinical One vs Rave). This page is the Veeva and Oracle pairing.
Evaluation
Send the same list to every vendor and keep the answers in writing.
| Topic | Question | What Capture offers for comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Suite dependency | Which other modules must we license or run for the EDC to deliver its full value? | EDC, ePRO, eConsent and randomization sit in one system with one audit trail; no other module is required. |
| Build | Who builds our eCRFs and how long from final protocol to a testable study? | Your team builds it. The AI study builder drafts visits and forms from an uploaded protocol and nothing saves without human review. |
| Amendments | How is a mid-study amendment handled, tested and charged? | Forms move from draft to approved; approved forms are locked for live use. Edit in draft, preview, approve. |
| Migration | If we later leave, what do we receive and in what format? | CSV/Excel with a data dictionary, audit trail export, and SDTM as SAS XPT with Define-XML. Ask every vendor for the same in writing. |
| Data cleaning | How are edit checks, queries and SDV configured, and by whom? | Edit checks raise auto-queries; SDV is set per field. |
| Randomization | Is randomization part of the same study, or a separate system with its own reconciliation? | Configurable randomization in the same platform; allocation is logged. Check any IRT needs separately. |
| Validation | What validation documentation supports our own validated use? | Enterprise customers receive documentation to support sponsor validation and UAT; ask for scope. |
| Total cost | What are all charges over 24 months: licence, build, per-study, per-site, change orders, hosting, exit? | The pricing page lists published terms; request the same level of detail from the others. |
Capture rows are from the Capture product and pricing pages. Vendor columns are deliberately blank: ask Veeva and Oracle directly.
Upload your protocol to the free sandbox, review the AI draft, and time how long a testable study takes. No card, no time limit.
Hands-on test
Because suites are sold on breadth, the data capture itself can get less scrutiny than it deserves. Take one real visit and ask each vendor to build it with a range check and a calculated field. Count the people involved, the days elapsed and what had to be raised as a ticket. This is a demo-data example of that visit in Capture.

Decision aid
Veeva is the natural comparator; ask how the EDC connects to what you have.
Clinical One is the natural comparator; ask the same integration question.
The CRO's platform often decides; ask what changes if you bring the study in-house.
Weight build time, amendment cost and sandbox access; test a lean option.
Check validation documents, support hours and site count, then test Capture's Phase 3 controls.
Process
Confirm each vendor's product names, module lists and a reference customer similar to you.
Same enrolment, sites, modules and two amendments to all vendors; ask for 24-month pricing.
Have each vendor or your team build one visit with an edit check and a calculated field.
Compare people involved, days elapsed, migration answers and total cost.
More comparisons
See Veeva EDC alternatives, Oracle Clinical One alternatives and lightweight versus enterprise EDC for which class of system fits. If you are already on one, how to switch EDC vendors mid-study explains the trade-offs.
For cost structure, see the EDC software pricing guide and model your own enrolment with the EDC cost calculator.
Neither wins in general. The better choice usually follows the ecosystem you already run, the platform your CRO builds in, and your amendment and migration needs. Test both with the same visit and a written scenario.
We do not quote either vendor's pricing because it is not published in a form we can verify. Ask both to price the same enrolment, sites and modules and compare the 24-month total.
Third-party summaries describe Clinical One Data Collection as the successor to Oracle Clinical and InForm. Confirm the current product line and support timelines with Oracle.
Third-party descriptions place Vault EDC within the Vault Clinical suite that also covers areas such as CTMS and eTMF. Ask Veeva which modules are licensed separately.
Because many studies do not need a suite. Capture is self-serve, combines EDC, ePRO, eConsent and randomization in one audit trail, and offers a free sandbox, so it is quick to test alongside the enterprise vendors.
Yes. Capture supports Phase 1 through Phase 3, including SDV per field, freeze and lock, blinded roles and multi-site filtering.
Send identical written questions to every vendor, build one real visit with an edit check and a calculated field in each, and compare people involved, elapsed time and 24-month cost.
