Export study data to Excel or CSV

Open Reports > Data & Exports > Export Data, choose a report (for example Data by visit, Raw data or Complete package (ZIP)), set the format and filters, check the preview and click download. Every export is recorded in the export log.

Where to find it

Reports > Data & Exports > Export Data

Before you start

  • Your role can export data. Study Owners, Data Managers, CRAs and Trial Managers have the menu path.

Export data

  1. Open Reports > Data & Exports. The page heading is Data & Compliance; stay on the Export Data tab.

  2. Under Choose a report, click the report you need. Its description appears below.

  3. Choose the Format (Excel or CSV) and any filters, such as Site or Complete responses only.

  4. Keep or untick Include metadata header (study name, export date, filters).

Untick it before loading a CSV into a statistics package: the header lines start with #.

  5. Check the Export Preview (records and variables), then click the download button.

The file is named after the study, the report and the date.

Quick exports from other pages

  • Casebook > Export: the casebook overview (status per participant and visit, AE and SAE counts, open queries, sign-offs), the concomitant medication listing and the "active at visit" medication report.
  • Queries, Status overview, ePRO, Data review and the participant Audit Trail tab each have their own download.
  • Treatment arms are only included through an unblinded export.

Common messages

  • "Export restricted": the study only lets unblinded roles export (unblinded exports).
  • "Export failed. Please try again.": try again; for very large studies, export one form or site at a time.
  • Only one file downloaded for Codes + labels: your browser blocked the second file. Allow multiple downloads for the site and try again.

Questions

Is every export logged?

Yes. Data & Exports > Export log lists every data download with the user, time, export, format, row count and whether it was blinded.

Can I get data in SAS format?

Yes. The CDISC SDTM package contains SAS transport (XPT) datasets, and interim lock runs can be exported as SAS XPT too.
