Set consent signatures, witnesses and countersigning
In the consent form's Settings, under Signature Requirements, choose a drawn or typed participant signature, whether a witness is required, whether a legally authorized representative (LAR) may sign, and whether the investigator countersigns. Click Save Settings.
Where to find it
Consent form > Settings > Signature Requirements
Set the signature requirements
Open the draft consent form and the Settings tab.
Under Participant signature, choose Drawn signature or Typed full name and date.
Switch on Require witness signature and/or Allow Legally Authorized Representative if your protocol needs them.
Keep Require investigator countersignature on (the default) if site staff must countersign.
Click Save Settings in the bar that says you have unsaved changes.
Countersign a signed consent (site staff)
A consent signed by the participant shows Pending Countersignature on the participant's page. The Principal Investigator, a Sub-Investigator or someone delegated the consent process clicks Countersign Consent, signs with their password, and the consent becomes Fully Executed.
Give participants a copy
In Settings > Participant Portal > eConsent Delivery, switch on Email signed consent copy to participant and/or Allow participant to download signed consent PDF. These switches save straight away and apply to every consent form in the study. Staff can also use Send copy to participant or Download copy on the participant's consent card.
Preview the consent form
The consent form's Preview tab shows how participants will see it. Test the full signing flow, including statements, the quiz and witness signatures, with a test participant in a draft study.
Questions
How does the participant prove who they are when signing?
Capture records how the participant reached the form: signed in with an email link, a personal single-use invitation link, or an open self-enrollment link. Each signature is linked to the exact document version they signed. See electronic signatures for clinical trials.
