Raise a query on a form field
Open the submitted form, click the speech bubble next to the field, pick a Category and Priority, write your message and click Raise Query. The site is notified and the query appears as Open with a number such as Q-0001.
Where to find it
Casebook > visit > form > speech bubble next to the field
Before you start
- Your role can raise queries: Study Owner, Study Manager, Data Manager, Medical Monitor or CRA.
- The form has been submitted, is not open for editing, and the field is not locked.
Raise the query
In the Casebook, click the visit cell, open the Forms tab and click View on the form.
Click the grey speech bubble next to the field.
Its tooltip says "No query - click to raise one". The Raise Data Query dialog shows the field and its current value.
Choose a Category: Missing Data, Inconsistent Data or Other.
Choose a Priority: Low, Normal (the default) or High.
Write the Query Message: what you need the site to check.
A message is required for Other. If you leave it empty for the other categories, a standard message is used.
Click Raise Query.
You see "Query Q-0001 raised successfully" (with the real number).
You can also raise a query from a participant's Responses tab or from Reports > Responses: expand a submission and click the small question bubble next to the answer.
What happens next
- The query is Open and shows a red badge on the field and in the Casebook.
- Staff at the participant's site, the roles chosen in the study's staff alerts (by default data managers and CRAs) and the Study Owner get an email.
- The site answers the query or corrects the value. You then close it or send it back.
- Every step is kept in the audit trail.
If you cannot raise a query
- No speech bubble: the form is not submitted yet, it is open in edit mode, the field is locked, or your role cannot raise queries.
- "Queries Disabled for ePRO": participants' questionnaire answers cannot be queried from the form. Contact the participant through the site, or ask the site to record a correction.
- "Answer no longer exists - please refresh": the form was saved again in the meantime. Refresh the page and try again.
Questions
What is a data query in a clinical trial?
A query is a question to the site about a data point that looks missing, inconsistent or wrong. The site confirms or corrects it, and the whole exchange is kept in the audit trail. Read more about query management.
