Set ranges, limits and alerts on a form
On standardized forms such as vital signs, set the expected range for each measurement in Ranges & alerts: a value outside it raises an automatic query without blocking the save. Number questions have minimum and maximum values, and Alert Triggers notify chosen roles when an answer matches a condition.
Before you start
- The form is a draft. Approved forms are changed through a new version.
Set expected ranges on standardized forms
Open the form (for example vital signs) and its Options tab.
Under Ranges & alerts, set the Unit, Low limit, High limit and Decimals for a measurement.
Click Save.
A Study override badge shows that the study uses its own limits. Reset to default brings back the standard ones.
When a site saves a value outside the limits, it sees "Outside expected range", the value is still saved, and an automatic query is raised for review. Use Alerts on the same tab to add your own alert rules.
Limits on number questions
For a Number field, set Min Value and Max Value under Validation, and choose whether decimals are allowed. Without limits, any value up to 10,000 can be entered, so setting realistic limits is recommended. Date questions block future dates unless you allow them.
Notify the team with alert triggers
In the question dialog, open Advanced: Alert Triggers and click Add Trigger.
Set the Condition and Value, for example greater than 7.
Choose the Notify Roles, the Severity and an optional Alert Message.
Save the question.
When a submitted answer matches, a safety alert is created and the chosen roles get an email with a sign-in link (never the answer itself).
For score-based actions, such as screening a volunteer out or showing a safety message, use scoring and rules.
