Add scores and automatic rules to a questionnaire
Open the form's Scoring & rules tab. Add scores (sum, mean or normalized) built from the questions' option scores, summaries across entries, and rules that act on a score or answer: screen a volunteer out, show a safety message or alert staff. Click Save scoring & rules.
Where to find it
Form > Scoring & rules
Before you start
- You can change scoring and rules: Study Owner, Study Manager, Data Manager or Administrator. Approved forms keep their scoring frozen; change it in a new version.
Add a score
Give each answer option a Score in the question dialog (or click Score 0, 1, 2...).
Open Scoring & rules and click Add score.
Fill Name and Key, and choose the Method: Sum, Mean or Normalized.
Tick the items (or other scores) it is built from, mark any reversed items, and set the minimum answered items and decimals.
Add Interpretation bands if needed, such as mild, moderate and severe, and click Done.
Scores are calculated when the form is saved, shown to staff and included in exports. Participants never see them. Summaries across entries combine an item or score over several entries, for example the median of a daily diary.
Add a rule
Click Add rule and describe it.
Choose the source (a score or an answer), the comparison and the value, for example score is at least 10.
Choose when it applies: always, only while screening, or only after enrollment.
Choose what happens: Screen out the volunteer, show a Participant safety message, and/or Alert staff with a severity and roles.
Click Done, then Save scoring & rules in the bar at the bottom.
